This Winter, as The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicted, has been in short supply of snow. However, it’s been significantly warmer than imagined, almost a Spring-like weather some days. The New Year often brings a stirring to shake off the Winter snow and dive into the mud of the yard, cultivating the earth for an abundant Spring. Most years, that early Spring-fever fades quickly with the proceeding two or more months of additional Winter snow and cold, but without that this year, the Spring-fever has decided to stick around a bit longer. Putting it to good use has proved to be incredibly satisfying in some good, old-fashioned Winter planning: making plans for the upcoming Spring.
Having moved into a new development in 2020, with a blank canvas for a yard, it has been a pure delight to plan a custom design for the landscape. Having discovered the thrill of the (longer than anticipated) process of planning and installing a custom-designed landscape, there ample opportunities to plan out small improvements this Winter, for the Spring. As an update to the progress made during 2020 and 2021, see the digital landscape plan along with the photos below. Some gorgeous Colorado Green Spruce trees, Bruins Serbian Spruce trees, and Green Velvet Boxwoods were installed from The Tree Center. Several plants from a local nursery were also installed, including two 25-gallon (yeah, it was a lot…) Rocky Mountain Glow Maple Tress, several Little Lime and Candy Apple Hydrangea’s, two varieties of Barberry (STUNNING in the Autumn!), and layers of Norther Exposure Amber, Obsidian, and Huckleberry Heuchera.
Soon, the plant care information, for each of these specimens, should be available on the site, to be downloaded and viewed by anyone interested in incorporating these incredible plants into their own landscape. This Spring, to keep things simple and inexpensive, some grass seed will be installed in the backyard. If financial circumstances allow for more projects, there is a possibility of also installing the remaining walkways throughout the front and backyard, as well as purchasing a fire-pit and some fire-pit furniture. If finances only allow for the grass, those will be installed throughout the Summer and Autumn. The Autumn will also be a time to plant a tree in the park strip, some maple trees in the backyard, as well as some fruit trees (possibly an apple, pear, and cherry). There is a lot more to share but for now, this is all.

Until next time,
